The Story of Glasser's Post Office
How Glasser Got Its Name
The area is named after a man named Bill Glasser. He bought property here in 1910. Bill Glasser built a general store where the post office stands today. Back then, the only post office nearby was far away in Landing. Getting there by land was hard because the road was unfinished.
Helping Neighbors with Mail
To help his customers and neighbors, Bill Glasser started picking up their mail. In the summer, he would use a boat. He let people pick up their mail at his store. This was a great service for everyone in the area.
Becoming an Official Post Office
In 1933, the post office decided to make Bill Glasser an official postmaster. This was because he wasn't allowed to carry mail that didn't belong to him. When ZIP codes were created, Glasser was given its own unique code: 07837. The area then became known as Glasser.
The postal service didn't want to call it Henderson, which is a cove on the lake. They also avoided Northwood, as there were too many places with that name.
