Discovering Glebe

Glebe is a smaller suburb compared to some others in Hobart. It has some interesting features that make it special.

Where is Glebe Located?

On its north and east sides, Glebe is surrounded by the beautiful Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. The Brooker Avenue forms the western edge of the suburb. The Tasman Highway marks its southern border.

Old Buildings in Glebe

Glebe is home to some cool old houses. You can find examples of Victorian and Federation Style wooden houses here. Some of these houses are quite tall, reaching up to four storeys high! They look very impressive towering over the Brooker Avenue.

Famous People from Glebe

Glebe was the birthplace and early home of three brothers: Ernest, Tasman, and Arthur Higgins. These brothers became very important cinematographers, which means they were experts at filming movies. They helped create some of the first Australian films during the time when movies were still silent, without sound.
