Glen Murphy MBE (born on April 6, 1957) is a British actor and producer. He is best known for playing Firefighter George Green on the popular TV show London's Burning from 1988 to 2002.
Acting Career
Glen Murphy was the only actor who stayed on London's Burning for its entire run. This show was very popular, with millions of people watching it every week. In 1992, he was even featured on This Is Your Life, a TV show that celebrates famous people.
After London's Burning, Glen appeared in other TV shows like The Bill and films such as Tank Malling and Shoreditch. He also worked as a producer and lead actor in the film " Lords of London " (2014). This movie won "Best Film" at the New York Hell's Kitchen Film Festival, and Glen won the "Best Actor" award at a film festival in Italy.
In 2020, he acted in a film called Finger of Suspicion. Glen has also performed in plays. He had a main role in the play Dealer's Choice at the Royal National Theatre in London in 1995. He also toured the country with a play called A Gentle Hook in 2004 and 2005.
Early Life and Other Work
Glen Murphy went to St Bonaventure's Catholic School in Forest Gate. When he was younger, he played guitar in a local blues band called Bon's Boy. He was also very good at sports. He won championships in football and boxing in London and Essex, and even boxed internationally. He also played semi-professional football for Enfield Town FC.
Glen has a 3rd Dan black belt in karate in the Kyokushin style. He has been training in martial arts for over 40 years. His brother, Darren Murphy, was a guitarist in the punk band Wasted Youth.
Glen's acting career started in a play called Johnny Boxer at the Half Moon Theatre in East London. He then acted in Guilty Generation and later joined the Theatre Venture company at the Theatre Royal in Stratford, London.
In 2005, Glen became a qualified sports therapist. He now runs his own clinics that help people with sports injuries in Essex and Italy. He is also a member of the Sports Therapy Association.
