When the arena first opened, it was known as Glendale Arena. This was its original name for a few years.
Jobing.com Arena
In late 2006, an online company called Jobing.com bought the rights to name the arena. This meant the arena's name changed to Jobing.com Arena starting on January 1, 2007. This name lasted for several years.
Gila River Arena
In 2014, the agreement with Jobing.com ended. A new deal was made with the Gila River Casinos. These casinos are owned by a local group of Native Americans called the Gila River Indian Community. The arena officially became the Gila River Arena on September 10, 2014.

Seating Capacity
The arena has seats for 17,125 people. If you include standing room, even more fans can watch the events, up to 17,534 people. This makes it a big place for sports and other shows.

Besides the Arizona Coyotes, another sports team used to play here. The Arizona Sting, a professional lacrosse team from the National Lacrosse League (NLL), played their games at the arena from 2003 to 2007.
