Glennie is a small, unincorporated community in the state of Michigan, USA. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own official local government or defined borders like a city or town. It's part of a larger area called Curtis Township, which is located in Alcona County.
Even though Glennie doesn't have official boundaries, it does have its own post office. This post office uses the ZIP Code 48737. This helps people send and receive mail in the area.
History of Glennie
Glennie began its story in 1889. It started as a "depot" on the Detroit and Mackinac Railway. A depot was like a train station where trains would stop. It was first known as 'Glennie Station'.
A post office was opened in the community on October 5, 1889. This was an important step for the growing community. It made it easier for people to communicate and do business.
In 1894, the community's name was made shorter. It changed from 'Glennie Station' to just 'Glennie'. Later, in 1940, the village was "platted." This means that the area was officially surveyed and mapped out into streets and building lots. This helped organize the community as it grew.
