Former Community of Bamfield

Bamfield was once a small community with a train station. It was located near the Au Sable River. A post office was open there for a short time in the 1920s. The community was later abandoned when the Alcona Dam was built. This dam created a larger body of water called Alcona Dam Pond.

Bryant is an unincorporated community found in the southeast part of the township.

Cheviers Community

Cheviers is another unincorporated community. It is located near the center of Curtis Township.

Curtisville Community

Curtisville is an unincorporated community in the western part of the township. It was first settled in 1881. The community and the township were both named after E. D. Curtis, who was the first settler. Curtisville had a post office that operated for many years, from 1897 until 1955.

Glennie Community

Glennie is an unincorporated community right in the middle of the township. It is located where two roads, M-65 and Bamfield Road, meet. Glennie started as a train stop in 1889. It was first called Glennie Station. A post office opened there in 1889 and is still open today. The ZIP Code for Glennie is 48737.

Kurtz Community

Kurtz is an unincorporated community located on the eastern edge of the township. It is next to Mikado Township. This community was named after Hugo Kurtz. It began as a place for logging around 1900. A post office was briefly open in Kurtz from 1909 to 1911.

Wallace is an unincorporated community. It is located just north of the Bryant community.

Curtis Township was officially formed in 1881. It was named after E. D. Curtis. He was the first person to settle in the area.
