About Gloria Plevin

Gloria Plevin was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 25, 1934. She grew up in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She finished high school in 1952. Later, she earned a degree from Ohio University in 1954.

When Gloria was 30 years old, she decided to become a painter. She had young children at home then. At that time, many artists were making abstract art. But Gloria chose to stick with her realistic style. She wanted to learn more about art tools and materials. So, she took classes at the Cooper School of Art and the Cleveland Institute of Art. She learned from teachers like Thelma Frazier Winter and Moe Brooker.

Her Art Journey

Gloria's art first became well-known in 1973. She won an award for a portrait she painted of her father-in-law. This was at a big art show in Chautauqua, New York. In 1985, she opened her own art gallery there.

Over time, Gloria's art changed. She started by painting people and still-life scenes. Later, she began painting gardens and landscapes.

Her first art show in a museum was in 1993. It was held at the Butler Institute of American Art. In 1999, Gloria received a special award from the Ohio Arts Council. This award is called the Governor's Award.
