Gloucester Point is a community located in Gloucester County, Virginia, in the United States. In 2010, about 9,402 people lived there. It is known for being home to the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. This institute is part of the College of William & Mary and is a special school where students study the ocean and marine life.
Where is Gloucester Point?
Gloucester Point is in the southern part of Gloucester County. It sits on the north side of the York River. If you cross the river to the south, you'll find Yorktown. Yorktown is famous as the place where the American Revolutionary War ended.
You can travel through Gloucester Point using U.S. Route 17. This road connects Gloucester Point to Yorktown and then goes about 18 miles further south to Newport News. If you head north on US 17 from Gloucester Point, you'll reach Gloucester Courthouse, which is the main town of Gloucester County, about 12 miles away.
