Glynn is a small community in southeastern Louisiana, United States. It's not a city or town with its own government, which is why it's called an "unincorporated community." You can find Glynn in Pointe Coupee Parish, right next to Louisiana Highway 416 and west of the famous Mississippi River.
The Story of Glynn
Glynn got its name from a man named Martin Glynn. He came to the United States from Ireland in 1847. Martin started a business in New Orleans, Louisiana, selling goods and helping farmers sell their cotton.
As his business grew, Martin Glynn bought a lot of land. He owned property in both West Baton Rouge Parish and Pointe Coupee parishes. After the American Civil War, Martin moved his family to the large piece of land he owned, which was about 3,000 acres.
A New Post Office
Around the year 1900, the Texas and Pacific Railroad built train tracks through Martin Glynn's land. This made it easier for people and goods to travel.
Because of the new railroad and more people living there, a post office was opened in Glynn on December 23, 1899. Martin's son, Charles Wilson Glynn, became the very first postmaster. The post office is still open today and is located near where Louisiana Highway 416 and Louisiana Highway 982 meet.
