God Forbid is an American heavy metal band. They formed in East Brunswick, New Jersey in 1996. The band was active until 2013, then reunited in 2022. They are known for their powerful sound and energetic live shows.

The Band's Journey

Starting Out: Early Years (1999-2004)

God Forbid started gaining fans in the late 1990s. They toured with other well-known bands like GWAR and Cradle of Filth. Their first full album, Reject the Sickness, came out in 1999. This album was played a lot on a local radio station, WSOU-FM. Because of this, the band signed with Century Media Records. They then released their album Determination in 2001. God Forbid even played on the MTV2 Headbangers Ball tour with bands like Shadows Fall.

Becoming Famous: Breakthrough Years (2004-2013)

In 2004, God Forbid released Gone Forever. This album, along with their performance at the huge Ozzfest music festival, made them much more popular. The next year, they released IV: Constitution of Treason. This was a concept album, meaning all the songs told a story about the end of the world. It was their first album to appear on the Billboard 200 music charts.

In 2007, one of their songs, "To the Fallen Hero," won an Independent Music Award. The band released a DVD in 2008. Their fifth studio album, Earthsblood, came out in 2009. It also did well on the Billboard 200 charts. God Forbid continued to tour across the United States and Canada.

In March 2009, Dallas Coyle, one of the guitarists, left the band. Kris Norris filled in for a tour, and later Matt Wicklund joined as the new guitarist. In July 2009, God Forbid played at the Rockstar Mayhem Festival. This big festival included many famous bands like Slayer and Marilyn Manson.

The band started working on a new album in 2010. This album, called Equilibrium, was released in March 2012. God Forbid also took part in the "Trespass America Festival" in 2012.

Taking a Break: The Hiatus (2013-2022)

On August 16, 2013, Doc Coyle announced he was leaving God Forbid. Soon after, other band members confirmed that God Forbid was no longer active. The band went on a break for several years. During this time, Doc Coyle joined another band called Bad Wolves.

Getting Back Together: The Reunion (2022-Present)

On March 14, 2022, God Forbid announced exciting news: they would be reuniting! Their first performance back together was at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival in September 2022. This was their first show in nine years. Nick Hipa, a guitarist from the band As I Lay Dying, joined them for this reunion performance.
