The Story of Golden Chick
The very first Golden Chick restaurant opened in 1967. It was in San Marcos, Texas, and was called Golden Fried Chicken back then. They started letting other people open their own Golden Fried Chicken restaurants (called franchising) in 1972.
Ten years later, the chain grew a lot. Most of its restaurants were in Central Texas. They focused on big cities like Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. Later, Golden Chick expanded to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. It even crossed the state line into Oklahoma.
Today, there are over 200 Golden Chick restaurants. You can find them in Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida.
Famous Menu Items
Since 1985, the most popular item on their menu has been their chicken strips. These are special and called Golden Tenders.
In 1996, the company changed its name. It became shorter, from Golden Fried Chicken to Golden Chick. This family-friendly brand also created the Big & Golden™ Chicken Sandwich. They also offer Golden Roast Chicken and a special Chicken Salad.
In 2017, Golden Chick celebrated a big birthday. It was their 50th anniversary! That year, they also helped sponsor a TV show called Texas Country Reporter.
Golden Chick's Family of Restaurants
Golden Chick is part of a bigger company called Golden Tree Restaurants. This company owns other restaurant chains too. Some of these include Heff's Burgers, Jalapeno Tree, JC's Burger House, Texadelphia, and Fireside Pies.
