The Golden Nugget Pancake House is a group of family restaurants. It started in Florida but now you can only find them in Chicago, Illinois. These restaurants are famous for serving breakfast all day and all night, 24 hours a day! Inside, they often look like something from the Wild West.

History of Golden Nugget

The Golden Nugget Pancake House was started by a man named Howard N. Quam. He was born in Chicago. Before opening restaurants, he served in the US Marines. After that, he worked as a blackjack dealer at a famous place called the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas.

How the Name Began

In the mid-1960s, Howard Quam moved to Florida. He opened his very first restaurant there. He decided to name it "Golden Nugget" to remember the casino where he used to work.

Golden Nugget Comes to Chicago

In 1966, Howard Quam came back to Chicago. He started opening more Golden Nugget restaurants there. Later, in 1988, he moved back to Las Vegas and opened even more restaurants.

Today, there are seven Golden Nugget restaurants in Chicago. Other restaurants, like the Golden Apple and the old Golden Angel, used to be part of the Golden Nugget family too.

A Chicago Favorite

Over the years, this group of "Golden" restaurants became very popular. Many people in Chicago love to eat there. It has become a special part of Chicago's culture.

In the 1970s, a local writer named Jon-Henri Damski described one of the Golden Nugget locations as "the biggest chicken coop in the Midwest." This shows how well-known it was. Later, in 1984, a writer named Dodie Bellamy even used a Golden Nugget restaurant in one of her short stories.
