Where is Goose Creek Located?
Goose Creek is found in the northeastern part of Jefferson County. It shares borders with several other communities. To its northwest is Barbourmeade. To the northeast, you'll find Broeck Pointe.
South of Goose Creek is Murray Hill. The larger city of Louisville and Jefferson County surround it on its north, southeast, and west sides. Goose Creek is about 11 miles (18 km) northeast of downtown Louisville.

The city of Goose Creek gets its name from a nearby stream. This stream, also called Goose Creek, flows about 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the city limits. It then travels northwest for about 4 miles (6.4 km) before joining the Ohio River.
How the Creek Got its Name
The creek might have been named after the wild geese that early settlers saw in the area. Another idea is that it was named after William Goose. He was a wagon maker who settled there in the late 1700s. The area was also known as "Florida Heights" in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
When Goose Creek Became a City
A local post office opened in Goose Creek in 1892 but closed ten years later in 1902. The city itself was officially formed and became a city in 1969.
