The Goose River is a small but important river located in Knox County, Maine, in the United States. It flows for about 4.4 miles (7.1 km) (which is about 7.1 kilometers) from its starting point to where it meets the ocean.
Where the Goose River Flows
The Goose River begins its journey from Hosmer Pond in the town of Camden. Hosmer Pond is like a natural reservoir that feeds the river. From there, the river travels in a southeast direction.
As it flows, the Goose River passes through different areas. It eventually reaches Rockport, another town in Maine. The river's path ends when it empties into Rockport Harbor. This harbor is a part of the larger Penobscot Bay, which connects to the Atlantic Ocean.
River's Journey from Pond to Harbor
The Goose River starts at an elevation of about 210 feet (64 m) (around 64 meters) above sea level at Hosmer Pond. As it travels towards the ocean, the river gradually loses elevation. By the time it reaches Rockport Harbor, its elevation is only about 7 feet (2.1 m) (about 2 meters) above sea level. This drop in elevation helps the water flow steadily towards the sea.
The river's journey is a good example of how fresh water from inland areas eventually makes its way to the ocean, connecting different parts of the landscape.
