Gordon is a small community located in Boone County, West Virginia, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Gordon was also historically a coal town, meaning coal mining was a big part of its past.

Where is Gordon?

Gordon is found in the beautiful state of West Virginia. It's about 12 miles away from a town called Madison. You can get to Gordon by taking Boone County Route 26. This road is right off West Virginia Route 85, near a place called the Van Bridge split.

How Gordon Got Its Name

Gordon got its name a long time ago, between 1883 and 1884. The person who named it was Asa White, who was the postmaster there. He named the community after his favorite nephew, whose name was Gordon Mason.

Interestingly, Gordon was also known by another name for a while: Detroit. This name came from the Detroit Mining Company, which had a coal mine in the area.
