History of Gordon Heights
Gordon Heights began in the early 1920s. A developer named Louis Fife offered land to people living in New York City. He visited neighborhoods like Harlem, Brooklyn, and The Bronx. He wanted to offer them a chance for a better life on Long Island.
Land was offered for a very low price. People could pay as little as $10 down and $10 each month or week. Many people started moving to Long Island in 1927. The community was named after "Pop" Gordon. He used to own most of the land where Gordon Heights now stands.
In 1945, a group called the Gordon Heights Progressive Association was formed. This group helped local residents with their needs. It also led to the creation of the Gordon Heights Fire Department.
