Gott's Roadside facts for kids
Gott's Roadside is a popular group of restaurants in Northern California. They have seven locations around the San Francisco Bay Area. Imagine a classic American roadside diner, but with a modern, fancy twist! This family-owned business makes fast food using special ingredients from local farms and suppliers. They cook everything fresh when you order it.
You can find yummy items like hamburgers, Ahi tuna burgers, salads, French fries, and milkshakes. They also have special dishes that change with the seasons. For example, they might offer a "Seoul" pork burger with kimchi or a B.L.T. sandwich with special heirloom tomatoes. On July 25, 2017, Gott's also started serving the vegan Impossible burger.

How Gott's Roadside Started
The story of Gott's Roadside began with an old burger shack. This shack, called Taylor's Refresher, had been around for 50 years in St. Helena. When its owners decided to rent it out, two brothers, Joel and Duncan Gott, saw a great chance. They wanted to open their own restaurant.
The brothers reopened the St. Helena spot in 1999. They called it Taylor's Automatic Refresher. Later, in 2010, there was a disagreement about the name. Even though the Taylor family didn't like it, the restaurant was renamed Gott's Roadside.
Growing Across California
Joel and Duncan Gott created a California-style restaurant. It's casual and fun. They serve local craft beers and special wines. But they also have classic kid-friendly foods like chili cheese dogs and mini corn dogs!
In 2004, a second Gott's opened in San Francisco. It's located in the famous Ferry Building Marketplace. Then, in 2007, a third location opened in Napa at the Oxbow Public Market.
The original St. Helena restaurant feels like a fancy drive-in. Guests can eat at bright red picnic tables on the lawn. The other locations are more like modern, retro diners in city areas. In 2013, a fourth Gott's opened in Palo Alto. The newest Gott's Roadside is in Greenbrae, which is in Marin County. The company is still owned by the Gott family.
Awards and Recognition
Gott's Roadside has received many honors over the years. In 2006, when it was still Taylor's, it won a special award. The James Beard Foundation named it one of America's Classics. This award celebrates timeless restaurants that have a special place in their communities.
Many famous magazines and TV shows have featured Gott's. These include The New York Times, Food & Wine, USA Today, Bon Appétit, Gourmet, and Travel + Leisure. It was even on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in Season 1, Episode 9.
