Government of Artsakh facts for kids
The Government of the Republic of Artsakh (Armenian: Արցախի Հանրապետության Կառավարություն) is like the main team that runs the country of Republic of Artsakh. This team includes a group of people called ministers, and they are led by the President of Artsakh.
In 2017, people in Artsakh voted to change how their government worked. They decided to have a "presidential system." This meant the President became the main leader, and the job of Prime Minister was removed.
After an event in September 2023, Artsakh agreed to close down its government by January 1, 2024. However, instead of closing, the Artsakh government decided to set up a new base in Yerevan, Armenia. This is called a "government-in-exile."
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has said he doesn't support this government-in-exile. He believes it could be a "security threat." On March 28, 2024, he stated that only the Armenian government can exist in Armenia. Some leaders from Artsakh have met with Bagrat Galstanyan, who is leading protests in Armenia. On June 14, 2024, Prime Minister Pashinyan warned that he might take action against Artsakh's leaders if they continue to encourage protests.
