Governorates of Jordan facts for kids
Jordan is divided into 12 main areas called governorates. You can think of them like states or provinces in other countries. These governorates help manage different parts of Jordan.
In 1994, four new governorates were created. These were Jerash, Ajloun, Madaba, and Aqaba.
The governorates of Jordan are grouped into three main regions. These are the North Region, the Central Region, and the South Region. These regions are mostly based on how far apart the cities are from each other.
Jordan's Governorates
Jordan's governorates are organized into three main regions. Each region has several governorates. Below is a list showing them, along with their size and how many people live there.
North Region
The North Region is home to four governorates. It includes some of Jordan's most populated areas.
