Govind Armstrong is a famous American chef known for his fresh and tasty California cuisine. You might have seen him on TV, where he has been a guest judge on the popular show Top Chef and a competitor on Iron Chef America. He also wrote a cookbook called Small Bites, Big Nights: ... Little Plates for Intimate Occasions and Lavish Parties.
A Chef in the Making
Govind Armstrong was born in Encino, California. He grew up in a house that was once owned by the famous writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. He has one older brother, an older sister, and two younger sisters.
His family background is a mix of different cultures. His mother is from Costa Rica, his father was African American, and his grandfather came from India. This diverse heritage influenced his cooking style.
Cooking with the Stars
Armstrong's journey into the world of cooking started when he was just 13 years old. He began training at Spago, a famous restaurant in West Hollywood owned by the world-renowned chef Wolfgang Puck.
He didn't stop there. He also learned from other great chefs, like Mark Peel in Los Angeles and Juan Mari Arzak at his restaurant Arzak in San Sebastián, Spain. Working with these masters helped him become the amazing chef he is today.
Currently, Armstrong is the chef and a co-owner of the Post & Beam restaurant in Los Angeles. He is also the Executive Chef at The Lobster, a well-known restaurant on the Santa Monica Pier.
