Early Life and Family

Govind Armstrong grew up in Encino, California. His childhood home was once owned by the famous writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. He has one older brother, an older sister, and two younger sisters.

His family background is very diverse. His mother is from Costa Rica. His father was African American. And his grandfather came from India.

Becoming a Chef

Govind Armstrong started learning to cook at a very young age. He was only 13 years old when he began his training! His first job was at a famous restaurant called Spago in West Hollywood. This restaurant was owned by the well-known chef Wolfgang Puck.

He also learned from other top chefs. These included Mark Peel at Campanile in Los Angeles. He even trained with Juan Mari Arzak in Spain, at a restaurant called Arzak in San Sebastián.

His Restaurants

Today, Govind Armstrong is a busy chef and restaurant owner. He is the chef and co-owner of Post & Beam restaurant in Los Angeles. This restaurant is known for its delicious food.

He also works as the Executive Chef for The Lobster. This popular restaurant is located right on the Santa Monica Pier.

Govind Armstrong also created the 8 Oz. Burger Bar. While some locations in Los Angeles and Miami have closed, you can still find 8 Oz. Burger Bars in Seattle. They are also located inside Horseshoe Casinos in Mississippi and Louisiana.
