Graafstroom was a special kind of local government area in the Netherlands. It was called a municipality. You can find the Netherlands in Europe. Graafstroom was located in a part of the Netherlands called the province of South Holland.

What Was Graafstroom?

A municipality is like a town or a small region that has its own local government. This government helps manage things for the people living there. Graafstroom was one of these areas. It had its own mayor and council. They made decisions about local services. These services included things like roads, schools, and parks.

Graafstroom's Journey: Merging with Neighbors

Over time, many municipalities in the Netherlands have joined together. This often happens to make local government more efficient. It can also help them work better for the people. Graafstroom also went through this change.

In 2013, Graafstroom became part of a new, larger municipality. This new area was called Molenwaard. Then, a few years later, in 2019, Molenwaard itself merged again. It joined with other areas to form an even newer municipality. This latest and current municipality is named Molenlanden. So, Graafstroom is no longer a separate municipality. Its history is now part of Molenlanden.
