Early Life and Art Education

Graham Knuttel was born in Dublin, Ireland, on March 10, 1954. His parents had moved to Ireland from England a few years before he was born. His father was from Germany and was Jewish. He moved to England with his mother after World War I and served in the Royal Air Force. Graham's mother was a Unitarian from Northampton. Graham's brother and one of his nephews are also artists.

Graham Knuttel went to Sandford Park School. After that, he studied art at the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology. He earned a special diploma in Fine Art Sculpture.

Graham Knuttel's Career

Graham Knuttel was a very creative artist. He drew, painted, and made sculptures. He often focused on drawing and painting people. Artists like Paul Cézanne and Pablo Picasso inspired some of his work.

In 1976, when he was a young artist, he won the Royal Canada Trust Award for sculptors.

In 1981, he helped start a company called Wicklow Fine Art Press. He was asked to paint portraits of famous people. These included actor Sylvester Stallone, Irish singer Christy Moore, writer John B. Keane, and boxing promoter Don King.

In 2008, the Irish postal service, An Post, released two special stamps. Graham Knuttel designed these stamps to celebrate the Summer Olympics that year.

Graham Knuttel passed away on May 27, 2023. He was 69 years old.
