Grand Bourg is a city in Malvinas Argentinas Partido, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. It is part of the larger Greater Buenos Aires area, which is a big group of cities and towns connected together.
Why Grand Bourg Has Its Name
The name Grand Bourg comes from a special place in Paris, France. It was a villa, which is like a large country house. General José de San Martín, a very important leader in Argentina's fight for independence, lived there for some time. Today, that area is a neighborhood of a French city called Évry-Courcouronnes.
Grand Bourg's History
Grand Bourg started as large farms in the 1800s. These farms grew fruits and vegetables, and also had dairy cows.
In 1948, a company began selling small pieces of land here. This was along the Belgrano North Railway Line. A train stop opened in 1951, and a full train station followed in 1956.
The area was first called Primero de Mayo. But in 1959, the station and the growing town were renamed Grand Bourg.
Over the next few years, Grand Bourg became an important place for making things. Many factories were built there.
On November 28, 1985, the government of the province officially declared Grand Bourg a city.
