The Grand Pabos River is a beautiful river located in Quebec, Canada. You can find it on the Gaspé Peninsula. This river starts from a lake called Lac du Nord. The lake gets its water from small streams in the Chic-Choc Mountains. The Grand Pabos River is about 42 kilometers (26 miles) long. Its name comes from the Mi'kmaq language, where "pabog" means "tranquility waters." This name perfectly describes the peaceful feeling you get near the river.

Fishing for Atlantic Salmon
The Grand Pabos River is very famous for its Atlantic salmon. These fish are known as salmo salar. People love fishing here because the water is super clear. You can often see the salmon swimming! The river also flows through deep forests. There are not many people around, which makes it a peaceful place.
History of Salmon Fishing
For many years, from about 1880 to 1950, the Grand Pabos River was a top spot for salmon fishing. Lots of people came here to catch these amazing fish. However, too many salmon were caught. This is called overfishing. By 1984, there were almost no salmon left in the river. Because of this, the river had to be closed to all fishermen.
Reopening the River
After being closed for many years, the Grand Pabos River finally reopened in 2003. This was great news for salmon and fishermen! Now, rules are in place to help protect the salmon. This way, future generations can also enjoy fishing here.

The Grand Pabos River is easy to reach. You can get there by following Quebec Route 132. This road runs along the river.
Managing the Rivers
An organization helps manage the fishing on the Grand Pabos River. This group also looks after two other nearby rivers. These are the Grand Pabos West River and the Petit Pabos River. It is easy to visit and fish in all three rivers on the same trip. This makes it a great place for a fishing adventure!
