Granite Springs, Virginia facts for kids
Granite Springs is a small, unnamed community located in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. It's not a town or city with its own government, but rather a group of homes and features in a specific area. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) marks Granite Springs at the spot where Belmont Road (Route 652), Lawyers Road (Route 601), and Granite Springs Road (Route 664) all meet.
To the north and west of Granite Springs are the communities of Paytes, Virginia and Belmont. The border with Orange County is to the northwest. A stream called Plentiful Creek forms the southern and eastern edges of the community.

Exploring Granite Springs Road
Granite Springs is officially marked where Granite Springs Road (Route 664) ends at Lawyers Road (Route 601). However, Granite Springs Road makes a sharp turn from going east-west to going north-south, and its route number changes to 680. After this turn, it runs alongside Lawyers Road and eventually meets up with it again.
Many people who live here believe the true heart of the Granite Springs community covers the entire area between Lawyers Road and Granite Springs Road. This includes places like the Fox Run neighborhood and Cedar Plantation, along with many individual homes along both roads.
When Granite Springs Road (Route 664) starts at Lawyers Road, it's paved. But after only about 0.1 miles (0.16 kilometers), it turns into a dirt road. The pavement doesn't start again until the road bends and becomes Route 680. There's also a bridge on this road that can only hold up to 2 tons (about 1,814 kilograms).
