Graniteville got its name because of the many granite rocks found nearby. People used to dig up these rocks in places called quarries. This was a big part of the community's early life.
A post office was opened in Graniteville in 1874. This was an important place where people could send and receive letters. The post office served the community for many years. It finally closed down in 1913.
