Grant City is a small, unincorporated community located in Wayne Township, within Henry County, Indiana. An unincorporated community is a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
A Look Back: Grant City's History
Grant City was officially planned and mapped out in October 1868. This process is called platting, which means creating a map that shows how the land is divided into lots and streets.
The community was named after a very famous American, Ulysses S. Grant. At the time, he was well-known as the top general leading the United States Army. Later, he became the 18th President of the United States. For a while, Grant City even had its own post office! It was called Snyder and served the community from 1888 until 1901.
