Gratiot was platted in 1829, and named in honor of Charles Gratiot.

At the 2010 census there were 221 people, 91 households, and 67 families living in the village. The population density was 1,700.0 inhabitants per square mile (656.4/km2). There were 101 housing units at an average density of 776.9 per square mile (300.0/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.6% White, 0.5% African American, and 0.9% from two or more races. Of the 91 households 23.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.2% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 26.4% were non-families. 20.9% of households were one person and 12.1% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.81.
The median age in the village was 44.4 years. 19.5% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.3% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 25.8% were from 25 to 44; 32% were from 45 to 64; and 15.4% were 65 or older. The gender makeup of the village was 47.5% male and 52.5% female.
