History of Gratz

Gratz was named after its founder, a person named Simon Gratz. He helped start the settlement in 1805. Later, in 1852, Gratz officially became a borough. This means it got its own local government.

Geography and Location

Gratz is found in the northeastern part of Dauphin County. It sits near the bottom of a mountain called Short Mountain. This mountain is part of the Appalachian Mountains, which are a large mountain range.

Pennsylvania Route 25 is a main road that goes through Gratz. This road connects Gratz to other towns. You can travel east about 18 miles to reach Interstate 81. Going west about 14 miles takes you to Millersburg on the Susquehanna River.

The borough of Gratz covers an area of about 2.95 square miles (7.6 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water inside the borough limits.
