The Great Blue Heron Casino is a popular entertainment spot located on Scugog Island. This island is just east of a community called Port Perry, Ontario, in Canada. It's also northeast of the big city of Toronto.
Both the casino and the land it sits on are owned by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. The casino's design shows off the First Nation's culture. You can see this in the art inside and especially in the unique red, blue, and cream colors of the roof.
Who Operates the Casino?
The Great Blue Heron Gaming Company runs the casino. This company is a partnership of several groups. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) manages the slot machines. The Baagwating Community Association manages the table games. This association is a non-profit group created by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.
The money earned from the casino is shared among these groups. It also goes to various charities. This is all based on agreements they have.
Casino History and Games
The Great Blue Heron Casino first opened its doors in 1997. Back then, it had gaming tables and a large bingo hall with 650 seats. The casino was updated a lot in 1999 and 2000.
Today, the casino floor is about 2,322 square meters (25,000 square feet). Inside, you'll find two bars and one restaurant. There's also a big room with 545 slot machines. For card and table games, there are 60 tables. Some of the games you can find include:

Future Plans and Expansion
The casino has been getting some big updates that were planned to finish in July 2020. These changes include adding a 100-room hotel. There's also a new 1,858 square meter (20,000 square foot) area. This new space will hold even more slot machines and gaming tables. Plus, a new entertainment center with 500 seats is being built.
