Great Neck Gardens is a small community in Nassau County, on Long Island, New York. It is also known as Allenwood. It's a type of community called a hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a local area that doesn't have its own separate government, but the government counts its population.
Great Neck Gardens is part of the Great Neck Peninsula. In 2020, about 1,268 people lived there. Since it's an unincorporated hamlet, the Town of North Hempstead helps manage it. The name "Great Neck Gardens" isn't used very often because the area was never officially made into its own town or village.
History
The area known as Great Neck Gardens was first officially recognized as a census-designated place for the 2000 United States Census. This was done so the government could collect information about the people living there.
Long ago, this entire area, including Great Neck Gardens, was known as Madnan's Neck.
One of the first European families to settle here was the Allen family. They owned a lot of land, including farms, in what is now Great Neck Gardens. This is why the area is sometimes called Allenwood.

Great Neck Gardens is a small community. It covers about 0.47 square kilometers (or 0.18 square miles) of land. There is no water area within its borders.

In 2020, the population of Great Neck Gardens was 1,268 people. Back in 2000, there were 1,089 people living in the area. Most households were married couples living together.
