The great fruit-eating bat (Artibeus lituratus) is a type of bat. These bats live in many places across the Americas. You can find them from Mexico all the way down to Brazil and Argentina. They also live on several islands in the Caribbean, like Barbados and Martinique.

About the Great Fruit-Eating Bat

When these bats are born, they are very small. They weigh about 10.5 grams. That's like a few paper clips! As they grow up, adult bats can weigh around 65 grams.

The heart of the great fruit-eating bat is quite special. It has unique parts that are not found in other mammals. Scientists are still studying what these parts do. They might help the bat's heart stay in the right place when it hangs upside down. These special features could also help the bat fly or save energy.

Threats to Bats

Sometimes, things in the environment can harm animals. For the great fruit-eating bat, a type of bug spray called deltamethrin has been linked to problems with their ability to have babies. This shows how important it is to be careful with chemicals in nature.
