History of the Church
The Church of the Holy Trinity and St Luke the Evangelist started in 1983. For many years, until December 1994, church services were held at an Anglican church. This church was located in Sutton Coldfield, which is a town near Birmingham.
Moving to a New Home
In 1992, the church leaders decided to move the church to a new location. They chose the West Midlands Cypriot Community Centre in Erdington, Birmingham. This move was made possible with the help of the Church Council. The priest at that time, Father Nikolaos Skapoulis, also helped a lot. Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain supported and blessed this decision.
Consecration and Services
On October 22, 1995, Archbishop Gregorios officially dedicated the new church. This special ceremony is called a consecration. Since then, the main church service, called the Divine Liturgy, has been held there. These services take place every Sunday and on important feast days. In 2013, Father Christos Stephanou was the priest of the church.
Church Renovations
In 2007, the church began a big renovation project. The roof was repaired and made new. A new ceiling was also put in place. Artists painted beautiful pictures called frescoes on the walls. These frescoes show different stories from the Bible. They are painted in a special style called Byzantine, which is very old and traditional.
Youth Conference Events
The church hosted a special event for young people on January 26, 2008. This event was called an Orthodox Youth Conference. It started with a Divine Liturgy, which is a church service. After the service, several speakers gave talks to the young people. The conference ended with a Vespers service, which is an evening prayer service.
