Green Lake is a beautiful and important lake in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. It is the largest and most northern lake in the Resort Municipality of Whistler. This lake is famous for its bright green color, which comes from tiny rock particles in the water. It is a popular spot for many fun outdoor activities.

Exploring Green Lake

Green Lake is the starting point for the Green River. This river eventually flows into the Lillooet River. Many streams and rivers feed into Green Lake.

Where Green Lake's Water Comes From

One main source is the River of Golden Dreams. This river flows from Alta Lake. Alta Lake is a special place because it divides two different river systems.

Other streams also bring water to Green Lake. Fitzsimmons Creek flows down from the mountains above Whistler Village. Rainbow Creek comes from Rainbow Mountain.

What's Around Green Lake?

Two neighborhoods in Whistler are located right by Green Lake. Alpine Meadows is on the southwest side of the lake. Emerald Estates is on the northwest side.

There is also an old, quiet place called Parkhurst near the lake. It used to be a busy lumber mill town. People sometimes mistakenly call it Soo Valley, but that is a different area nearby.

Green Lake's Size and Features

Green Lake sits at an elevation of 633 meters (about 2,077 feet) above sea level. It is about 1.2 kilometers (0.75 miles) long. The lake is usually about 650 meters (2,130 feet) wide. Its total area is around 2.2 square kilometers (0.85 square miles).

Green Lake: A Special Airport

Green Lake also serves a unique purpose. It is known as Whistler Airport. This means it is a special airport for seaplanes, which are airplanes that can land and take off on water.
