Greenbush's Location and History
This community is located right on the beautiful shores of Lake Huron. It sits along U.S. Route 23. People started settling here as early as 1848. A person named Crosier Davison from Detroit built a place to catch and prepare fish. He also made barrels, a job called a cooperage.
Later, in 1862, a company from New York called Morris & McDougal bought land for their lumber business. People sometimes called the area "McDougal's Landing." In 1867, a lumber leader named William Conklin suggested naming the community "Greenbush." He got the idea from a place called Greenbush, New York.
