Greenvale is a small country community. It is located in the central-east part of a region called the Riverina.

Greenvale is found by road about 8 kilometres (5 miles) south of Birrego. It is also about 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) northwest of Boree Creek.

History of Greenvale

Greenvale used to have its own Post Office. It opened on July 1, 1904. However, it closed down just 16 years later, in 1920.

Greenvale Football Club

The Greenvale Football Club was a local sports team. Their team colours were green and gold. They played in the Faithful & District Football Association. They were part of this league from 1920 to 1939.

Club Success

The Greenvale Football Club was very successful. Between 1929 and 1936, they played in eight grand finals in a row. A grand final is the championship game. Overall, they played in 15 grand finals. They won eight championships in the Faithful & DFA league.

In 1936, a special award was given out. It was for the league's best and fairest player. Leo Foley from the Greenvale FC won this medal. In the grand final that year, he also scored eight goals.

Later Years

In 1940, the club joined a different league. This was the Lockhart & District Football League. They finished as runners-up that year. They lost to the Osborne FC in the final game.

The Greenvale Football Club did not start up again after World War Two.
