Greer Barnes was born in the South Bronx and grew up on Manhattan's West Side. He had a Jewish stepfather and celebrated his bar mitzvah when he was thirteen. In high school, Greer was a talented athlete, especially in baseball. When he was 19, he had a chance to try out for the San Francisco Giants baseball team. However, he couldn't afford the trip to get there.
Instead of baseball, Greer started doing stand-up comedy. He quickly became very popular in the New York comedy scene. His comedy heroes are famous comedians like Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy. Greer has performed at many well-known comedy clubs, including Catch a Rising Star, Comic Strip Live, The Comedy Cellar, and Carolines on Broadway.
