Greg Buckner is an American basketball coach and former professional player. He was born on September 16, 1976. Greg is currently an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He also coached for the Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Greg was chosen by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1998 NBA draft. Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball at Clemson University. He also played for teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, and Minnesota Timberwolves. His first professional team was the Grand Rapids Hoops.

College Days

Greg Buckner played for the Clemson Tigers in college. He started every game during his four years there. He helped his team reach the NCAA tournament three times. Greg was the first Clemson player to lead the team in scoring all four years. In 1995, he was named the ACC Rookie of the Year. He was honored in the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.

Playing in the NBA

After college, Greg played for the Dallas Mavericks from 1999 to 2002. He then joined the Philadelphia 76ers and later the Denver Nuggets. In 2006, he returned to the Dallas Mavericks. The next year, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. In 2008, he moved to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of a big trade. Greg was traded back to the Dallas Mavericks in 2009. This trade involved four different teams.

From Player to Coach

In 2011, Greg started his coaching career with the Houston Rockets. He worked there for five seasons as a player development coach. During his time with the Rockets, the team made it to the playoffs three times. Later, he became an assistant coach for the Memphis Grizzlies. In November 2020, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers as an assistant coach. On April 21, 2021, Greg got his first win as a temporary head coach. He led the Cavaliers to a 121–105 victory against the Chicago Bulls. In June 2022, the Cavaliers promoted him to associate head coach.
