Gregory Derayle Buckner (born September 16, 1976) is an American basketball expert. He used to be a professional basketball player. Now, he is an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has also coached for the Memphis Grizzlies and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Greg was picked by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1998 NBA draft. He played college basketball at Clemson University. Before joining the NBA, he played for the Grand Rapids Hoops. There, he scored about 8.6 points and grabbed 3.9 rebounds per game. He later played for the Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Grizzlies.

College Basketball Journey
Greg Buckner played all 122 games during his time with the Clemson Tigers. He helped his team reach the NCAA tournament three times. Greg was the first Clemson Tiger to lead the team in scoring for all four years he played. In 1995, he was named the ACC Rookie of the Year. In 2005, he was honored by being added to the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame.
Professional Basketball Teams
After playing with the Dallas Mavericks from 1999 to 2002, Greg joined the Philadelphia 76ers. He then signed with the Denver Nuggets. In 2006, he returned to the Dallas Mavericks.
A year later, in 2007, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. In 2008, the Timberwolves traded him to the Memphis Grizzlies. This trade involved several players, including O. J. Mayo and Kevin Love. In 2009, Greg was traded back to the Dallas Mavericks as part of a big four-team deal.
Coaching Career Path
On July 29, 2011, Greg Buckner started his coaching career. He joined the Houston Rockets as a player development coach. He worked with the Rockets for five seasons. During this time, the team made it to the playoffs three times.
Later, he became an assistant coach for the Memphis Grizzlies. In November 2020, he moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers as an assistant coach. On April 21, 2021, Greg got his first win as a head coach. He temporarily took over for head coach J. B. Bickerstaff. The Cavaliers won that game against the Chicago Bulls 121–105. On June 13, 2022, the Cavaliers promoted Greg to associate head coach.
