Gregory Alan Grant (born August 29, 1966) is an American former professional basketball player. He is known for his amazing journey from playing on local playgrounds to becoming an NBA star.

Grant played as a point guard, a position in basketball where a player leads the team's offense. After his time in the NBA, he became a successful basketball coach. He now runs a sports academy in Trenton, where he helps young players improve their skills.

Greg Grant's Early Life

Greg Grant grew up in Trenton, New Jersey. When he was in high school, he worked at a fish market. Even though he had a tough start, he loved playing basketball.

He was discovered playing on a local playground. This led him to enroll at Trenton State College in 1986. This college is now called The College of New Jersey (TCNJ).

College Basketball Success

At TCNJ, Greg Grant became a fantastic college player. In 1989, he was the top scorer in Division III basketball. This is a division for smaller colleges in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. His skills caught the attention of professional teams.

Playing in the NBA

In 1989, Greg Grant was chosen in the NBA draft. The Phoenix Suns picked him as the 52nd player overall. This was a huge step from the playground to the biggest basketball league in the world.

He played in the NBA for six years. During this time, he played for six different teams. This shows how much he was valued as a player.

Coaching and Inspiring Others

After his playing career, Greg Grant wanted to give back to his community. In 2010, he became the head coach for Trenton Central High School, his old school.

Coaching Achievements

They won the Mercer County division title. They also won the school's first-ever Colonial Valley Conference Championship. He coached for five years and had a total record of 100 wins and 32 losses. All of his players graduated from high school, which is a great achievement!

His Story in a Book

Greg Grant shared his inspiring life story in a book. It is called 94 Feet and Rising: The Journey of Greg Grant to the NBA and Beyond. He wrote it with the help of Martin Sumners. The book came out on July 17, 2009. It tells about his journey from local playgrounds to college and then to the NBA.
