Gregory Lewis Stokes (born August 5, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player. He was chosen by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1985 NBA draft. Greg played as a power forward and center. He was known for his height, standing 6 feet 10 inches tall.

Early Life and College Basketball

Greg Stokes grew up in New Haven, Connecticut. He played high school basketball at Hamilton High School in Ohio. In his senior year (1980-1981), he helped his team achieve a great record. They won 25 games and lost only 1. His team made it to the regional finals.

After high school, Greg played college basketball for the University of Iowa. He played there from 1981 to 1985. During his time at Iowa, he was a standout player. His jersey number, 41, was later retired by the Iowa Hawkeyes. This is a special honor for great players.

Professional Basketball Career

Greg Stokes began his professional career in 1985. He was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round. He was the 33rd player picked overall.

Playing in the NBA

Greg played in the NBA for two seasons. He played for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Sacramento Kings. In total, he played in 42 NBA games. He scored 130 points during his time in the league.

International Play

After his time in the NBA, Greg Stokes played basketball overseas. He played professionally in Italy for several teams. These included Dietor Bologna, Vismara Cantù, and Glaxo Verona. He also played in Spain for Joventut Badalona. Later, he played in Australia for the Southern Melbourne Saints.

Family Connection

Greg Stokes has a daughter named Kiah Stokes. She is also a professional basketball player. Kiah played college basketball at the University of Connecticut. She played there from 2011 to 2015. Kiah now plays in the WNBA for the Las Vegas Aces. She also played for the New York Liberty.
