A Look Back in Time
Grenola had its start in 1879 when a railroad was built through the area. Before that, there were two towns called Green Field and Canola. These towns were about three miles apart.
When the railroad came, people from both towns moved to the new spot and joined together. The name Grenola is a portmanteau. This means it is a new word made by combining parts of two other words. In this case, it's from "Green Field" and "Canola."
