Grimms' Fairy Tales facts for kids

Children's and Household Tales (in German, Kinder- und Hausmärchen) is a famous collection of fairy tales. It was first published on December 20, 1812. The stories were collected by two brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm, who are known as the "Brothers Grimm".
Most people in English-speaking countries know this collection as Grimms' Fairy Tales. The very first edition had 86 stories. But by the seventh edition, published in 1857, the collection had grown to include 211 different fairy tales!
The Story of the Collection
The Brothers Grimm released the first part of their first edition on December 20, 1812. It contained 86 stories. The second part, with 70 more stories, came out in 1814.
For the second edition, two volumes were published in 1819. A third volume followed in 1822. This brought the total number of tales to 170. Over the years, new editions were released:
- The third edition appeared in 1837.
- The fourth edition came out in 1840.
- The fifth edition was published in 1843.
- The sixth edition was released in 1850.
- The seventh and final edition came out in 1857. This last edition is the one most people know today.
