Its main city is Grodno, which is also the biggest city in the region. Grodno sits right on the Neman River. Imagine two old castles, built between the 14th and 18th centuries, standing tall on the riverbank! Many people think Grodno is one of the prettiest cities in Belarus. You can also find the St Boris & St Gleb (Kalozhskaya) Church here. This Orthodox church dates back to the 12th century, making it the second oldest church in all of Belarus.
The Grodno Region is home to some amazing historical and natural spots. The Mir Castle Complex is a huge castle built in the 16th century. It's so important that it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Part of the famous Belovezhskaya Pushcha nature reserve is also in this region. This forest is another World Heritage Site, known for its ancient trees and unique wildlife.
The Grodno Region is divided into smaller areas to help manage it. It has 17 districts (called raions), 12 cities, and 21 urban-type settlements.
