What's in a Name?
The name Grosmont comes from a nearby hill. In French, "Grosmont" means "big mountain." This is how the community got its unique name.
The name Grosmont is also used for a special layer of rock. This rock layer is called the Grosmont Formation. It is part of a very large area of rock layers in Western Canada. The name also appears in the "Imperial Grosmont No. 1 well," which is a type of oil well.
