Gross was started in 1893. It was named after a man called Ben Gross. He owned the general store in the village.

Gross in the News
In November 2018, the village of Gross was featured on CNN. This happened because the two people who lived there hosted a family reunion for Thanksgiving. This special event briefly made the village's population grow to 20 people!

Gross is part of the Boyd County Schools district. This school district was created in June 2017. Before that, Gross was part of the West Boyd Public Schools, which was formed in 2007.
