History of Grove

The first non-Aboriginal person to settle in Grove was Silas Parsons. He started a farm property called Grove Estate in 1839. Later, in 1970, Grove was officially recognized as a locality. This means it was given its official name and boundaries.

Geography of Grove

A river called Mountain River flows through the northern part of Grove. This river is a branch of the larger Huon River. It flows from the northeast to the southwest. The Mountain River also forms part of Grove's western border.

Most of the area southeast of the main road, the Huon Highway, is hilly. This part of Grove is still covered in forests. However, the area northwest of the Huon Highway is flatter. This land has been cleared for farming. Farmers here mostly raise animals and grow fruit in orchards.

Grove itself doesn't have many shops or services. The nearby town of Huonville is where people go for most of their needs.

Roads in Grove

The main road in Grove is the Huon Highway (also known as route A6). This highway enters Grove from the northeast, coming from Hobart. It then runs through Grove towards the southwest. It eventually leaves Grove on its way to Huonville.

Other important roads include:

  • Mountain River Road (route C617): This road starts at the Huon Highway. It goes north through Grove, following the Mountain River.
  • Crabtree Road (route C618): This road begins at Mountain River Road. It travels northwest before leaving Grove.
  • Lollara Road (route C619): This road starts at the Huon Highway. It goes west and eventually follows the Huon River.

These three roads, along with the Huon Highway, make up the main road system in Grove. There are no train lines in Grove.
