About Guadalupe Reservoir

Guadalupe Reservoir sits at an elevation of about 614 feet (187 m) above sea level. It covers an area of 74 acres (300,000 m2), which is about the size of 56 football fields! The reservoir can hold a lot of water, about 3,415 acre-feet (4,212,000 m3).

Where the Water Comes From

The reservoir gets its water from Guadalupe Creek. This creek is a smaller stream that flows into the Guadalupe River. The water then flows out of the reservoir and continues down Guadalupe Creek.

Naming the Reservoir

The Guadalupe River, and therefore the reservoir, was named on March 30, 1776. It was named by the de Anza expedition, a group of explorers. They named it "Rio de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe" to honor a Mexican saint. This saint was very important to their journey.
