António Gualberto do Rosário was born on October 12, 1950. He is an important leader from Cape Verde, an island country in Africa. He served as the Prime Minister of Cape Verde from July 29, 2000, to February 1, 2001. Before that, he was the acting Prime Minister for a few months. He also led a political group called the Movement for Democracy party.

Gualberto do Rosário has had a long career in public service. He worked in different important roles for his country.
Early Government Roles
From 1991 to 1993, Mr. do Rosário was a Minister in the government. He was in charge of areas like fishing, farming, and helping rural communities. A minister is a high-ranking official who leads a specific part of the government.
Becoming Prime Minister
In May 1998, Gualberto do Rosário became Cape Verde's first-ever Deputy Prime Minister. At that time, he was also the Minister of Economic Coordination. This meant he helped manage the country's economy. He also served as the Minister of Finance from 1997 to 1999.
In July 2000, he was chosen to lead the Movement for Democracy party. Soon after, the previous Prime Minister, Carlos Veiga, stepped down. Gualberto do Rosário was then chosen to become the new Prime Minister on July 30, 2000.
After His Time as Prime Minister
After the parliamentary election in February 2001, a different party, the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV), won. Because of this, Mr. do Rosário was replaced as Prime Minister by José Maria Neves, the leader of the winning party. Later that year, in August 2001, Gualberto do Rosário also stepped down from leading the Movement for Democracy party.
Leading in Tourism
Even after his time as Prime Minister, Mr. do Rosário continued to contribute to Cape Verde. In 2007, he became the president of the National Union of Tourist Operators (UNOTUR). This group works to support tourism in the country. In 2016, he was re-elected as the President of the Chamber of Tourism, showing his continued dedication to this important industry.
Running as an Independent Candidate
In February 2008, Gualberto do Rosário decided to run for a position on the Municipal Council of St. Vincent. He ran as an independent candidate, meaning he was not officially representing a political party at that time.
Gualberto do Rosário's Writing
Besides his political work, Gualberto do Rosário also enjoys writing. He started writing poems when he was a teenager. He published his poems in different journals and reviews, sometimes using different names. He was also one of the people who started "Folhas Verdes" (which means "Green Leaves").
He wrote his first short story, called "Lume no Alto Selarino," when he was still in high school. Later, he wrote several fiction books. These include "Hora Minguada" (published in 2002), "Ilha Imaculada" (meaning "Immaculate Island," published in 2004), and "A Herança da Chaxiraxi."
