Gunya people facts for kids
The Kunja (also known as Gunya) were an Indigenous Australian group of people. They lived in the state of Queensland, Australia, long before European settlers arrived. They are an important part of Australia's rich Indigenous history.
Kunja Traditional Lands
A famous researcher named Norman Tindale studied where different Indigenous groups lived. He estimated that the Kunja people's traditional lands covered about 31,000 square kilometers (12,000 square miles). This area stretched along the Warrego River.
Their lands went from Cunnamulla in the south, northwards towards Augathella and a place called Burenda [1]. To the west, their country reached somewhere between Cooladdi and Cheepie. The eastern boundary of their land was near the modern-day town of Morven and Angellala Creek [2]. The town of Charleville was also located within the traditional lands of the Kunja people.
