Győző Kulcsár was a famous Hungarian fencer. He was born on October 18, 1940, in Budapest, Hungary. He passed away on September 19, 2018, at the age of 77. Kulcsár was known for his incredible skill with the épée, a type of sword used in fencing. He became one of the most successful fencers in history.

Olympic Champion Fencer
Győző Kulcsár competed in four Olympic Games. He took part in both individual and team épée events. These games were held in 1964, 1968, 1972, and 1976.
Gold Medals at the Olympics
Kulcsár won an amazing four gold medals at the Olympics.
- In 1964, at the Tokyo Games, he won a gold medal with the Hungarian team in épée.
- At the Mexico City Games, he won two gold medals. One was for the individual épée event, and the other was with the team.
- In 1972, at the Munich Games, he won his fourth gold medal, again with the épée team.
Bronze Medals at the Olympics
Besides his gold medals, Kulcsár also earned two bronze medals.
- He won an individual bronze medal at the 1972 Munich Games.
- His second individual bronze medal came at the 1976 Montreal Games.
World Championship Success
Kulcsár was also very successful at the World Championships. He helped the Hungarian team win three world titles. These victories happened in 1970, 1971, and 1978.
Life as a Coach
After he stopped competing, Győző Kulcsár became a fencing coach. He shared his knowledge and skills with new generations of fencers.
Coaching in Hungary and Italy
Kulcsár coached in his home country, Hungary, from about 1980 to 1988. He returned to coaching in Hungary after 2001. For a period between 1988 and 2000, he coached in Italy.
